- XRP price struggles to reclaim $1.40 as whale short positions outweigh bullish bets despite a $49 million long position
- XRP ETF inflows have reached $1.81 billion cumulatively, but recent institutional demand has slowed
- MarketCapOf’s profit calculator shows a potential $518.80 profit on a $3,000 XRP investment if the price rises from $1.33 to $1.56
XRP price is struggling to reclaim $1.40, but some of the market’s biggest traders are betting against a recovery. One Hyperliquid whale is holding a nearly $49 million long position, even as other large accounts have built heavier short exposure. Meanwhile, XRP ETF inflows have slowed despite months of institutional buying. With a key XRP Ledger upgrade facing delays, traders are watching whether bullish conviction can overcome the growing pressure from short sellers.

XRP Whales Favor Shorts Despite $49 Million Bullish Bet

Data from a Hyperliquid whale tracker shows that large accounts held approximately $88.6 million in XRP short positions against $63.3 million in longs as of October 21.
Of the 50 tracked positions, 34 were shorts, and just 16 were longs. It should be noted that the largest bullish position alone was worth $48.9 million, accounting for roughly 77% of the group’s total long exposure.
One whale was also sitting on approximately $8.8 million in unrealized profits. However, the overall positioning among the tracked accounts remained bearish.
This leaves XRP whales divided. A recovery above $1.40 could put pressure on leveraged short sellers, potentially triggering liquidations that accelerate upward momentum. But a rejection near resistance could strengthen the bearish case.

Can XRP Price Reach $1.56 as ETF Demand Slows?
Institutional demand has cooled considerably. According to Crypto ETF data, US spot XRP funds recorded no net flows on October 19 and 20, following $2.5 million in outflows on October 16.
Cumulative XRP ETF inflows still stand near $1.81 billion, although recent activity suggests institutions are taking a more cautious approach.

Amidst this, CoinCodex’s XRP price prediction model projects an October high near $1.52. The forecast leaves room for a recovery, although these algorithmic estimates change frequently. A stronger rally toward $1.56 would offer investors a potential return worth considering.
According to MarketCapOf’s Crypto Profit Calculator, a hypothetical $3,000 investment in XRP at a buying price of $1.33 would grow to $3,428.57 if the cryptocurrency reached $1.52. That represents a potential profit of $428.57, or 14.29%, excluding trading fees and taxes.

In addition, in other XRP news, the XRP Ledger’s fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment is now expected to activate on November 4, provided validator support holds.
For now, XRP price analysis remains focused on the $1.40 resistance area. Whether bulls can reclaim that level while whale shorts dominate could determine the next short-term move.
