Micron & Nvidia to Drive 36% of S&P 500 Earnings Growth as Analysts Back $2,000 and $300 Targets

Micron stock

Micron stock and Nvidia stock are carrying expectations that reach well beyond the semiconductor sector. Together, the two companies are expected to deliver more than a third of the S&P 500’s third-quarter earnings growth, according to the latest reports. Analysts have reaffirmed bullish price targets for both. But behind those forecasts, Micron is confronting a more immediate challenge of securing the materials and workforce needed to keep production moving.

The estimate puts Micron’s contribution at 5.2 percentage points and Nvidia’s at 4.6 points toward projected S&P 500 earnings growth of roughly 27% year over year. Combined, that is approximately 36% of the increase in profits, rather than 36% of total index earnings.

The next eight largest contributors account for another 8.2 percentage points, according to the chart. This concentration leaves the overall earnings outlook sensitive to results from a handful of companies.

Cantor Fitzgerald maintained its $2,000 Micron stock price target and Overweight rating. Its assessment points to tight memory supply through 2028 and additional customer agreements signed at higher prices. The firm also expects activity under Micron’s roughly $35 billion repurchase authorization to accelerate from December 9.

Goldman Sachs separately reiterated its $300 Nvidia price target and Buy rating after Jensen Huang’s Berlin keynote. The bank cited continued AI deployments and improving supply preparedness. Both targets were reaffirmed, not raised.

The two companies remain far apart in market value. MarketCapOf’s comparison puts Micron at roughly $1.04 trillion against Nvidia’s $5.33 trillion. Matching Nvidia’s valuation would imply a Micron stock price of $4,708.51, about 5.14 times the tool’s $915.80 reference price, assuming an unchanged share count. It should be noted that this shows the valuation gap and is a hypothetical comparison, not a price forecast.

Micron Invests in Materials as Taiwan Workers Strike

Meeting AI chip demand also requires dependable access to manufacturing inputs. Micron’s agreement with Indium Corporation provides funding for expanded refining and manufacturing operations in Rome, New York, alongside a long-term supply agreement.

The investment forms part of an up-to-$3 billion US supply-chain program. Micron’s planned US fab and technology spending exceeds $250 billion through 2035. The individual Indium investment amount was not disclosed.

Labor relations present a nearer-term issue. Reports noted that the Micron Taiwan strike began on October 22. Workers at Taoyuan have been seeking clearer bonus and profit-sharing terms. Micron had reached an agreement with the separate Taichung union. The production impact of the Taoyuan action remained uncertain.
