XRP and DOGE Show Heavy Holder Losses as MVRV Offers a Recovery Signal

XRP DOGE COINS

XRP and Dogecoin, or Doge, holders are showing a notable profitability gap as of late. The latest Santiment data was the first to highlight this issue, stating how both the cryptocurrencies are still below the break-even level on Santiment’s 365-day MVRV metric. Moreover, traders are now watching closely as the Bitcoin price recovers from its recent weakness, with positive momentum also spreading across other altcoins. Will Dogecoin or XRP be able to recover their losses in this process?

A latest Santiment report on September 23 shared how XRP’s 365-day MVRV stood at -11.75%. Dogecoin MVRV, on the other hand, is at a deeper level, sitting at -19.26%. As compared to Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Chainlink, this development shows how Dogecoin and XRP holders are in loss, with Dogecoin holders taking more heat when compared with XRP ones.

A negative MVRV means that the coins measured in 365-day groups are worth less than their aggregate cost basis on average. In simpler terms, the average XRP and Doge holders in the measured group are currently sitting below their cost basis by 11.75% and 19.26%, respectively.

“Lower MVRV usually means less downside risk. When most holders are already underwater, there are fewer profitable traders waiting to sell. Buying during that pain has historically offered better long-term setups. XRP and DOGE stand out the most right now. Their average long-term traders are still deep in the red, even after the recent market rebound. That gives them more room to recover if demand keeps improving.”

Oftentimes, this has been marked as a situation where a trader would wait before selling his coins, as expectations surrounding a possible price surge in the future may impact their decisions.

A negative MVRV may sometimes mean that there is less profit-taking pressure, preventing the coins from deteriorating further. However, the metric alone does not confirm a price bottom or guarantee a recovery.
