The SpaceX $40B debt deal is the trending topic at the moment, as the company has managed to secure this deal to buy advanced AI chips. The firm’s CEO, Elon Musk, is currently focusing heavily on AI expansion, with investors keeping a close eye on SpaceX’s AI infrastructure spending developments. This deal is set to help SpaceX purchase GPUs and the chips used to run AI models. The company is also engaged in renting out such computing power, giving SpaceX another revenue stream. Will such developments be able to impact the SpaceX stock price?

The SpaceX $40B debt deal outlines the scale of investment required to compete in the AI industry. Musk said the debt is “callable” and will support GPU purchases needed to expand SpaceX’s AI infrastructure. These GPUs are expected to arrive in the first and second quarters of 2027. This shows how SpaceX is evolving beyond its space ventures and is now entering the AI business to expand its reach. Its AI cloud business is open for renting, giving SpaceX another potential revenue stream.

This funding deal also comes with its own set of risks. Borrowing enables SpaceX to expand immediately without issuing new shares. However, it also adds debt and repayment obligations that the business must manage as it moves forward.

Musk Says Rivals Could Face Trouble

Musk has issued an ominous warning for his rivals in the cloud business. He stated that nearly 200 neocloud businesses could face severe financial pressure, with only a few surviving. His core argument is that companies with revenue sources outside AI infrastructure may have an advantage over those that depend entirely on AI computing demand.

For instance, SpaceX can draw on its rocket and satellite businesses to support its AI expansion, while companies that depend entirely on AI data centers may have a harder time expanding their businesses. However, Musk’s prediction about neocloud companies remains his own assessment, not a confirmed outcome.

What Comes Next for SpaceX Stock?

Investors are keenly watching SpaceX stock and how its heavy AI infrastructure spending translates into viable returns. According to JPMorgan, the stock may hit a new high of $500. Barclays has set a target of $300, while UBS has set a target of $230. Bank of America has also set a target of $275.

These price targets reflect analysts’ expectations rather than guaranteed outcomes. SpaceX’s future stock performance will depend partly on whether its AI infrastructure spending generates enough revenue to justify the investment.

Let’s take a look at how SpaceX stock performed against Rocket Lab (RKLB), a competitor in the space industry. While Rocket Lab operates on a much smaller scale than SpaceX, it competes in the launch market and also develops satellite systems and components. According to the MCO ROI comparison tool, SpaceX stock (SPCX) recorded a 0.92x decrease, while Rocket Lab saw a 0.69x decrease between January 1 and October 26, 2026. Both stocks declined over this period, although their performance alone does not determine how investors will respond to SpaceX’s $40 billion debt deal. The key question is whether SpaceX can turn its growing AI infrastructure investment into sustainable revenue without losing focus on its core space business
