GameStop CEO Makes Another September Purchase

The GameStop CEO bought 1,150,680 shares at an average price of $22.9375, spending approximately $26.4 million. His SEC filing puts his direct holdings at 40,498,522 shares following the transaction. Individual purchases ranged from $22.76 to $23.02.
Cohen had already purchased one million shares on September 10 at an average of $20.3759. Together, those two transactions represent approximately $46.8 million spent on 2.15 million shares in less than two weeks. He paid more per share in the latest purchase, adding to his position as the price increased.
The buying comes after a quarter that showed progress on profitability alongside weaker revenue. GameStop reported second-quarter operating income of $160.2 million, while net sales declined to $790.2 million from $972.2 million a year earlier. Collectibles revenue increased 57% to $356.3 million, accounting for 45% of sales, according to latest reports.

The after-hours gain in GME stock followed the purchase disclosure. Whether it lasts will also depend on the retailer’s ability to sustain those profits as its sales mix changes.
