- Ryan Cohen bought $22.8 million in GameStop stock, raising his beneficial ownership to 9.1%, including shares underlying warrants
- GameStop’s eBay plans remain unresolved after its rejected $56 billion bid and reports of a possible partnership
- MarketCapOf’s January 1–October 14 comparison shows a $2,000 investment growing to $2,645.97 in GameStop versus $2,666.20 in eBay
Ryan Cohen has bought another $22.8 million in GameStop stock, increasing his financial commitment to the retailer while its ambitions for eBay remain unsettled. The purchase follows another notable investment earlier this month and lifts his reported beneficial ownership to 9.1%. For shareholders, the buying offers another reason to watch the chief executive closely. It also leaves an important question of what business Cohen will build around that growing investment.

Ryan Cohen Adds to His GameStop Stake

An October 13 SEC filing records two open-market purchases, 67,130 shares at $26.75 and another 777,000 at $27. Together, the 844,130 shares cost approximately $22.77 million.
Cohen’s GameStop stake now comprises 46.23 million beneficially owned shares. This figure includes approximately 3.73 million shares underlying warrants, alongside 42.49 million directly owned common shares. This matters when measuring his ownership.
The latest GameStop insider buying follows an approximately $17.1 million purchase disclosed earlier in October, according to reports. In addition, the CEO had made notable purchases in September as well. Those two investments bring his spending this month to roughly $39.9 million.

The eBay Question Goes Beyond a Takeover
GameStop previously proposed acquiring eBay for approximately $56 billion. The marketplace’s board rejected the offer in May.
In August, reports revealed that Cohen was considering a partnership or joint venture instead. The potential arrangement could use GameStop’s roughly 1,600 US stores to expand the companies’ presence in trading cards and collectibles. GameStop would also seek representation on eBay’s board under the reported proposal. No final decision had been made at that point.
For GameStop, the commercial question is how its store network could complement eBay’s marketplace and generate additional earnings. Cohen’s share purchase adds to his personal exposure, but the filing offers no update on an agreement.
How GME Stock Compares With eBay
The two stocks have produced similar returns over the period selected in MarketCapOf’s ROI tool, January 1 through October 14, 2026.

A hypothetical $2,000 investment in GME stock would have reached $2,645.97, a gain of $645.97, or 32.30%. The same starting amount in eBay would have reached $2,666.20, producing $666.20 in gains, or 33.31%.
This puts eBay ahead by just $20.23 on the tool’s calculation. Despite different businesses and an unresolved takeover proposal, their returns over this period were remarkably close.
For shareholders, the next meaningful development would be a concrete explanation of how a commercial relationship between the companies would work, what it would cost, and how it would improve profits.
