To facilitate these services, it employs a varied fleet comprising dry and specialized vans, flatbed trailers, temperature-controlled units, and shipping containers. Its rail intermodal services leverage contracts with both domestic and Canadian railroads, while air and ocean freight are managed through agreements with international airlines and shipping lines. This segment caters to a diverse client base, including the automotive, consumer goods, building materials, metals, chemicals, foodstuffs, heavy machinery, retail, electronics, and military equipment sectors. The Insurance segment primarily reinsures specific risks associated with the company's independent contractors. Landstar markets its offerings via a network of independent commission-based sales agents and a pool of third-party capacity providers.
