- The Ethereum price surged 71% in Q3, outperforming Bitcoin’s rally
- Justin Sun revealed he sold most of his ETH holdings and shifted the proceeds into US tech stocks
- The ETH price target of $4,608 could offer potential gains, depending on the Ethereum rally and future market conditions
The Ethereum price has surprised the crypto market with a stellar Q3 performance. The asset has risen nearly 71% in Q3, outperforming Bitcoin in the process. However, the news of its recent surge was accompanied by an ETH selloff made by Tron founder Justin Sun. In one of his latest interviews, Sun revealed how he has reduced his ETH holdings, converting the proceeds into US stocks. What is the future ETH price target? Let’s explore in depth.

Ethereum Gains 71% in Q3

The Ethereum price has been showing surprising moves as of late. Per the new data metrics, the asset has risen from $1570 to $2687 from July to September, surging nearly 71% in the process. In comparison, Bitcoin managed to surge 42% in Q3, showcasing a stark contrast between the two assets. At the same time, this recovery was important for Ethereum, as the ETH price had fallen in earlier quarters, making it harder for the asset to bounce back.
At the same time, the improved metrics are also signaling how investors’ demand has greatly improved for the asset. US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded nearly $3.1B in net inflows in Q3. This number has ended up reversing the net outflows recorded in the first half of 2026. This has largely ended up improving the ETH rally and price prospects, with investors hoping to see some credible ETH moves ahead in the future.
Justin Sun Sells His ETH Holdings
While the Ethereum price was recovering from its earlier losses, the founder of Tron, Justin Sun, revealed how he has reduced his ETH holdings. Per the Wu Blockchain report, Sun shared how he sold 80% to 90% of his ETH holdings when the asset was trading at $3600 and $4000. He reportedly made these sales in late 2025.
He later added that he has still kept some of his core ETH holdings but had not bought back the amount he sold. These figures reflect Sun’s own statements, and the exact size of the sales has not been independently confirmed on-chain.
“We may have reduced the stock. Around 4000, around 3600, most of our Ethereum has been reduced.”
He later shared the reason, adding that he thinks Ethereum may be forming a fragile double top. This pattern usually occurs when an asset approaches a similar price level twice but fails to move higher. However, the pattern alone does not confirm that the asset will fall.
“It was actually very simple to make this judgment at the time. From a transaction point of view, it was a very obvious second point. In fact, Ethereum had already tried 4800 once before, and then it fell. The second time, I remember it was through ETF. What Tom Lee did was they came back to life again and then formed a very classic two-top structure. And this structure is very fragile in my opinion.”
The Tron founder later shared how he has moved the majority of the capital earned from the sale into US stocks, primarily tech stocks.

Ethereum Price In The Long Run
While Ethereum’s improving Q3 performance keeps investors hooked for now, its long-term price movements are also bullish according to platforms such as CoinCodex. CoinCodex’s ETH target price currently points to a ETH claiming $4,608 by the end of 2030, although forecasts can change over time.
Per the MarketCapOf crypto calculator tool, a $1,000 investment in ETH right now may end up giving $898 worth of returns by 2030, making the full amount to be at $1898 based on its future price.
However, one must note that crypto markets are subject to intense volatility; hence, investors should carefully consider the risks before making any investment-related decisions.
