The company's operations are strategically divided into four key segments: Biologics; Softgel and Oral Technologies; Oral and Specialty Delivery; and Clinical Supply Services. The Softgel and Oral Technologies division focuses on the formulation, development, and manufacturing of soft capsules. These are utilized in a diverse range of client products, such as prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, nutritional supplements, unit-dose cosmetics, and medicinal preparations for animal health. Within the Biologics segment, Catalent undertakes the creation of biologic cell lines, develops and manufactures both cell therapy and viral-based gene therapy, and handles the formulation and production of parenteral dose forms, including vials, prefilled syringes, and cartridges. This segment also provides essential analytical development and testing capabilities. The Oral and Specialty Delivery segment offers extensive formulation, development, and manufacturing expertise across various technologies. It provides integrated downstream solutions spanning clinical development and commercial supply. This segment also features a dedicated oral delivery solutions platform, encompassing preclinical screening, formulation, analytical development, and current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) services. Finally, the Clinical Supply Services segment delivers vital support for drug and biologic clinical trials. Its services include manufacturing, specialized packaging, secure storage, efficient distribution, and comprehensive inventory management. This segment also offers "FastChain," a demand-led clinical supply service. Catalent serves a broad client base, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and consumer health organizations, alongside companies in other healthcare sectors like animal health and medical devices, and even the cosmetics industry. The company was founded in 2007 and maintains its headquarters in Somerset, New Jersey.
