- Bitcoin price reclaimed the $80,000 level, with BTC showing renewed momentum after a strong August rally
- A quantum-safe Bitcoin transaction has been confirmed on mainnet, marking a potential step toward protecting the network from future quantum-computing threats
- Binance founder CZ says Bitcoin could reach $1 million sooner than expected, arguing that broader adoption across payments, pensions and national reserves could accelerate the timeline
Bitcoin (BTC) is back above $80,000, but there’s more going on than another move on the chart. Bitcoin’s price has picked up in August as attention turns to a new security development on the network. Amid this, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao was talking up a far bigger target, saying Bitcoin could reach $1 million much sooner than some expect.

Bitcoin’s Price $80K Comeback Has Real Demand Behind It

Bitcoin’s price briefly pushed above $80,000 today. This is after it reached around $81,000 earlier this week and marked its highest level since May. The rally has been substantial, with BTC gaining roughly 28% in August at its recent peak. At press time, the king coin recorded a slight correction and is trading at $79,334.01.
The rally also looks stronger than a usual summer bounce. Bitcoin’s spot-market depth has held up during the move, with enough liquidity to absorb heavier buying without a major hit to market conditions.
This does not make $80,000 a guaranteed launchpad. Nearly 8% of Bitcoin’s supply sits between $80,000 and $82,000, creating a notable resistance zone that traders are now watching closely.
A Quantum-Safe Bitcoin Transaction Just Reached Mainnet
Another update came from StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy, whose quantum-safe Bitcoin method was used for a confirmed Bitcoin transaction on mainnet.
The transaction uses hash-based cryptography along with Bitcoin’s existing system and does not require a soft fork or changes to Bitcoin’s consensus rules. StarkWare says the approach is designed to protect coins from a future quantum computer capable of breaking the elliptic-curve cryptography Bitcoin currently relies on.

The test is still a long way from making Bitcoin quantum-safe across the board. The setup is experimental, comes with higher computing costs, and uses a separate path to get transactions to miners. But the fact that one has now made it onto the mainnet gives developers something real to work with.
CZ Thinks $1 Million Bitcoin Could Arrive Sooner
Amidst this, there is CZ’s Bitcoin commentary, which adds a notably bullish twist. Speaking at Bitcoin Asia 2026, Changpeng Zhao said he expects Bitcoin’s price to reach $1 million and does not think it will take 25 years. But he stressed that price is only part of the story. He pointed to Bitcoin becoming widely used for payments, retirement assets, pension funds, and national reserves as the bigger markers of adoption.
At $80,000, $1 million still sounds enormous. But the conversation is shifting from whether Bitcoin can survive to what infrastructure needs to exist for it to become a much larger financial asset. The quantum-safe experiment is one small, rather technical piece of that puzzle.
