Coinbase Stock Falls 3.3% as Revenue Drops 35% and Bitcoin Premium Hits Four-Year Low

Coinbase stock

Coinbase made $719 million in quarterly profit, but its shares fell 3.3% in after-hours trading on October 29. Revenue had dropped sharply from a year earlier, even as newer businesses started bringing in more money. The Coinbase earnings report gave investors plenty to weigh, a weaker trading fees, growing prediction markets, and a return to profitability. For anyone following Coinbase stock, the biggest question was how much of that profit the company could reasonably repeat.

Much of the answer sits in Coinbase’s earnings reconciliation. The company recorded $715 million in gains on crypto assets held for investment. After removing investment gains and accounting for the related tax adjustments, its $718.7 million net profit came down to adjusted earnings of $77.7 million.

Revenue fell 35% year over year to roughly $1.22 billion. Transaction revenue was $590 million, although it held roughly steady against the previous quarter as broader crypto trading volumes declined 10%.

There were signs of progress elsewhere. Subscription and services revenue rose 3% quarter over quarter to $570 million. Prediction markets passed $200 million in annualized revenue. This is a measure of the business’s revenue pace, rather than its actual quarterly sales. These products are bringing in money while traditional trading remains subdued.

Coinbase Premium Drops to a Four-Year Low

October’s trading data added another concern. The Coinbase Premium Index fell to −0.27% on October 29, its lowest reading since November 2022.

The index compares the Bitcoin price on Coinbase’s dollar market with Binance’s USDT market. A negative reading means Bitcoin trades at a discount on Coinbase, suggesting weaker relative demand or greater selling pressure there.

The FTX-era comparison concerns the depth of that discount. It does not establish another exchange crisis. It should be noted that prominent cryptocurrency exchange Binance is currently recovering from a massive hack.

Coinbase Stock vs Bitcoin: Comparing a $2,000 Investment

The difference in returns has been substantial. MarketCapOf’s comparison for January 1–October 30, 2026, values a hypothetical $2,000 investment in COIN stock at $1,346.38, down 32.68%. The same Bitcoin investment stands at $1,770.01, a decline of 11.50%.

Bitcoin therefore leaves the investor with $423.63 more over the selected period. Owning Coinbase has brought a considerably larger loss this year. Its growing product range gives shareholders more businesses to follow, but trading revenue and the value of its crypto investments still weigh on the results.
