Russia’s crypto dynamics are constantly evolving. The country is embracing crypto at a rapid speed, approaching the domain with an independent state of mind. In this wake, Sberbank Deputy Chairman Anatoly Popov shared how the bank expects regulated exchanges to handle between $3.5T and $4T in roubles in crypto transactions during the first year of the business. This translates to roughly $46B per the current exchange rate.

However, it is to be noted that the estimates above might be conservative. A large portion of Russia’s crypto trading activity is expected to continue outside the regulatory environment as well. Sberbank later shared how regulated platforms may end managing around $7.5T in roubles to roughly $87.06B by 2029. Per TASS, Russia’s broader crypto activity is estimated to be around 18T roubles annually. This development means that the regulated market may represent only a part of the country’s overall activity.
