- Market crash concerns are growing as Michael Burry warns of an AI bubble, putting the S&P 500 crash risk and AI stocks in focus
- Joachim Klement forecasts a potential 36% S&P 500 decline, with a year-end 2027 target of 5,000 points
- Rising AI spending and borrowing costs could pressure earnings and valuations, although neither warning confirms that a crash will happen
Leading market investor Michael Burry has been warning the markets about an impending AI bubble crash. Burry is of the view that a market crash could be approaching, after identifying a pattern seen in earlier market crashes in 2000 and 2008. At the same time, strategist Joachim Klement has also issued a stark warning, stating how the AI boom may end up pushing the S&P 500 down by nearly 36%.

Michael Burry 270-Day Market Crash Warning
Burry, the investor known for predicting the US housing market collapse, is once again issuing a stark market crash warning. Burry is warning that the recent stock market outlook appears to be in a stage of grief and denial. He said that during the 2000 and 2008 market periods, this period lasted for about six to nine months. His post about an impending market crash has prompted discussions, with investors introspective about whether they are underestimating the current market dynamics.
Per a recent Barchart post, the 270-day timeframe reflects the longer end of Burry’s six-to-nine-month comparison; he has not confirmed a specific crash date. Burry’s warning has come at a time when the stock market indexes are posting bullish gains driven by rapid AI evolution and progress.

Joachim Klement Warns Of A 36% S&P 500 Drop
Klement, head of market strategy at Panmure Liberum, has also raised questions about AI trade and its consequences on the S&P 500 index. Joachim Klement shared how he believes rising borrowing costs, inflation, and heavy AI spending may end up putting pressure on company earnings. This in turn may impact market valuations, which could end up dragging the S&P 500 index down.
Klement’s future stock market outlook is particularly bearish. Klement has set a year-end 2027 target of 5,000 points for the S&P 500. He later shared how he thinks the index may drop by 36%, ushering in a bit of panic in the market. He further expects Europe’s Stoxx 600 to fall to 430 points. The major cause backing such predictions is the rising AI spending and costs. If these costs fail to generate credible revenues, then it may impact the index’s bullish streak at present.
The concentration of market value among major AI companies is another risk investors are watching. MarketCapOf’s comparison tool shows that Nvidia (NVDA) and Microsoft (MSFT) both recorded an increase of 1.06x between September 10 and October 9, 2026. This comparison highlights the strong performance of two leading AI stocks. It also highlights the stark AI stocks concentration debate, showcasing how this topic is contributing heavily to the AI bubble and market crash discussions.
