The company employs cutting-edge platform technologies, including gene therapy, cell therapy, genome editing, and genome regulation. Central to their technological approach is the zinc finger protein (ZFP) platform, which provides both ZFP nucleases for precise DNA sequence modification (allowing for gene addition or knockout) and ZFP transcription factors for upregulating or downregulating gene expression. Their development pipeline includes SB-525, currently in a Phase III AFFINE clinical trial for hemophilia A; ST-920, a gene therapy in Phase I/II STAAR trials for Fabry disease; and SAR445136, a cell therapy undergoing Phase I/II PRECIZN-1 trials for sickle cell disease. Additionally, Sangamo is advancing TX200, a chimeric antigen receptor for HLA-A2 mismatched kidney transplant rejection; KITE-037, a cell therapy targeting cancer; ST-501 for tauopathies; and ST-502 for synucleinopathies, which include Parkinson's disease and other neuromuscular disorders. The company maintains extensive collaborative and strategic partnerships with prominent organizations such as Biogen MA, Inc., Pfizer Inc., Sanofi S.A., Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, Inc., and F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. Originally incorporated in 1995 as Sangamo BioSciences, Inc., the company adopted its current name in January 2017 and is headquartered in Brisbane, California.
