This page explains where the figures on MarketCapOf come from, how often they are updated and how each number is calculated.

New coins and stocks are picked up automatically every hour. Prices and market caps are stored in US dollars and converted to the currency you choose with the latest exchange rate; company financials use the exchange rate of the period they cover. To keep pages fast, a new crypto price can take a few minutes to appear on the site, and a new stock price up to an hour. When an exchange is closed (weekends, holidays), a stock shows its last price. Coin and stock pages show the date of their latest price when it is not from today, and comparison pages show it under the result.
How we calculate the figures
Market cap
Market cap is the price multiplied by the number of coins or shares in circulation. For cryptocurrencies we use the market cap reported by CoinGecko; for stocks, the market cap reported by Financial Modeling Prep (share price multiplied by shares outstanding).
The price of A with the market cap of B
This is the main calculation on MarketCapOf. We divide the market cap of B by the number of A coins or shares in circulation:
Price of A with the market cap of B = market cap of B ÷ coins or shares of A in circulation
For example, if B has a market cap of $300 billion and A has 20 million coins in circulation, one A would cost $300,000,000,000 ÷ 20,000,000 = $15,000. The figure next to the result compares it with A's price today: 2x means twice today's price, 0.5x means half of it.
The ATH (all-time high) view
The ATH view uses the highest market cap B has reached in our daily price history instead of its market cap today.
The 12-month chart on comparison pages
For each of the last 12 months, the chart shows the price A would have had with B's market cap on the last day of the month with data for both. Figures in currencies other than the US dollar use today's exchange rate.
Fully diluted valuation
The current price multiplied by the maximum supply, or by the total supply when a coin has no maximum.
Price changes
The 1-day change compares the latest price with the previous day's price. The 1-year change compares it with the last price recorded at least one year earlier.
Rankings
Coins are ranked by their latest market cap among the coins we track. Stocks are ranked once per company, by the market cap of the company's main listing, so a company listed on several exchanges appears only once.
Calculators
The ROI calculator compares how two assets' prices changed between the dates you pick, using our daily price history; in other currencies it uses the exchange rate of each date. The crypto calculator works out profit or loss from the amounts and prices you enter, and can fill in a coin's current price.
Data quality checks
- Stock quotes are checked before they are saved. Values outside realistic limits, and sudden jumps that don't match the stock's previous price or its other listings, are rejected.
- If a coin's data stops arriving from CoinGecko, it is retried on every update. After 30 days without data it is flagged for review.
- A company listed on several exchanges is shown under one main listing, the same one used for its price, market cap and rank.
Limitations
- The comparisons are hypothetical. They show what a price would be at another asset's market cap, not where a price is going.
- Supply figures are what projects and companies report to the data providers. Providers can disagree, and small or new coins can have incomplete data.
- Tokens added by contract address come from decentralized exchange pools, where prices can be thin and change quickly.
- Figures in other currencies depend on the exchange rate used, so they can differ slightly from other sites.
- Nothing on MarketCapOf is financial or investment advice.
